Post ? for Halloweenking.

New to this bulletin board. Yall have a lot of good info. I believe you are one of the go to guys for this board. My project is to make a forward tilt hood on my s-10(like what is on the Vette's). Do you have any ideas on how to do this? I cant pivot from a pin connection b/c there is not enough room between the top of the grill and the bottom of the hood. It must come forward a couple of inches before it can tilt. Lookin forward to hearing from you. If you like I can e-mail you or even call you. Thanks.

John (from middle GA)

John, welcome! Depends how you want to do this, but it can be done a few different ways. It can be totally custom, or the run of the mill type tilt front end. The first question to you is can you weld and do you have a air compressor handy? What exsperience do you have in autobody? Last but not least, is the tilt front end for looks and individuallity or are you doing it for a better way to work on your engine? If its just for individuality and looks I have some great ideas. If you want to be able to take your front end off completely for better access to your engine/suspention I could tell you how to do it the run of the mill type. Let me know and I'll walk you through it.

HK....I think he is just wanting to tilt the hood forward, not the whole front end.
JohnBoy, try to find hood hinges from a mid 80's buick LeSabre (2 door style) they were forward-tilting from factory.
You could also try using trunk hinges from a Honda Civic or Accord(90's body styles)
I will see what else I can come up with.
Later,
WEIMER

Thanks Guys for the reply. Weimer you are right, I think HK just misread my post. I’m pretty sure HK has a lot of ideas how to do what I want (may I wasn’t very clear in my first post). Now that I know what to look for I’ll grab a bag of tools and head for junk yard (all day deal, so much good stuff to look at). Looking forward to hearing from ya’ll again. Thanks
John

John boy, weimers right, look for those type hinges. If you can't find any in the bone yard let me know I can tell you how to make some pretty easy. Are you wanting to get very custom, or just change the direction of the hood opening? PM or e-mail me and I'll give you some ideas you may want to try.

There is a company out there that make forward hinges for an '89 Silverado but I am not sure whether they will adapt to a '77. I will dig out the magazine and post the company. It was in Truckin' approx 3 months ago with step by step articles.
