Thanks DragLink..I have been looking for a sedan/delivery...tough to find and i have a headroom issue because I want to "Drive" or
"Hoist" in and operate from my power w/chair.
Do you know any builders that can raise the roof or lower the floor? our shop can't handle this kind of work....Thank You Danker

Danker, we have a department at our hospital that specializes in just these types of modifications. Rehab Engineering does van mods and all types of prothetic devices, although we are a little out of your way it would not hurt to talk to the head of the Mechanical Devices. Send him an e-mail through this site and he may have some contacts closer to where you live.

http://www.hsc.mb.ca/placecard14.htm

The medical industry is international and I am sure they should be able to help with a contact or two. The type of modification you require is not unusual but may be expensive, have you looked at the possibility of a low profile chair. They are expensive also but considering the type of mod you are talking about would be cheaper in the long run. Smaller wheels are another common mod as well as drop section floor boards that lead from the sliding door. Give Paul a call and tell him Chuck from Clinical Engineering sent you, he's a great guy and a top notch fabricator he might have some better ideas than I.

All right! 4 Jaw CHUCK.....
I saved "Pauls" web page with the phone #s.
I'll call him during buis. hours. I have many Qs.
Expence is not my problem...A new VAN with the
equipment I need will cost atleast 40K.
My hopes are that I can (get help) build something
unique but daily dependable..
Thank you for your help....

Terrific Danker, we get vehicles from all over the U.S. and Canada down for modifications. If you can make the trip and want to take a holiday I am sure your US dollars would be welcome, Paul may have some simple solutions for you too!

Have you thought about a panel truck rather than a delivery. They have a taller roof and any 60 or older has 'the look'. Makes a cool ride and you could drive with little mods.

Question

Panel truck ? any ideas or websites wher i can find a "solid platform"? It's a waist of time looking for one here in wisconsin. Too much
rust or neglect on the ones i have found.
I'm probably going to have settle for a later model van AGAIN.

Danker,

Here is a few photos of a chair that our Cancer Foundation produces, it is very low profile and can be made a lot lower than what is shown in the photo. This patient needs a ventilator below the seat and various other electronics incorporated in the seat design, this particular chair has a power back rest that also articulates the leg rests at the same time. This chair features custom seat cushion foam and has an anti bed sore cushion in the seat built in. Electric powered versions of this chair are also available but each is fabricated to fit the patient for a superior fit.

Have a look.

Welcome Danker! What about a vintage Divco Milk Truck or Bread Van?? www.divco.org 10+ years ago at the "Muddy River Run" in Ft. Wayne, Indiana there was a guy there with a '48 or older Divco with a powered drop down rear ramp - he hauled if memory serves a Metropolitan around in it - they have a ton of head room as they were driveable as sit down or stand to drive! There were longer wheel base versions available too! At the Flushing, Mich April Cruise @ A&W (3rd Saturday of the month) there was a restored mid 60's Divco Milk Truck (guy lives in Mt. Pleasant) They ran the same body style for years! Check 'em out!

Boy-- Do I dig those front casters! How tall (from seat pan to deck) Weight? $$$?
I'm holding off calling Paul because all the guys
are really into helping me find a "perfect"platform to build on..After I found said ride I'll be burning up the phone lines it Manitoba...Thanks again for your time and expertice..
TO ALL YOU OTHER GUYS reading my posts,,,
Keep the ideas coming! Without your help my dreams
of being BACK will come true! TY..danker

howdy almost neighbor.have you thought about an older panel truck like 30's-40's.seen one in a hot rod type magazine.the guy was in a wheel chair also. they fabricated a new frame and used a front wheel drive unit.which left a lot more room floor to roof.and the back doors where welded together and was designed to lower as a loading ramp.just another idea
