Handling

I got an 85 monte carlo and wanted to the first step in improving the handling of the car? Antthing I could get off of another car?

well i dont know what "ANTTHING" means, but depends on what kind of handeling, low speed cornering, low speed driving, highway, highspeed driving, highspeed cornering? even though the basic idea for all of them is the same, replace the factory , you still have to figgure out what conditions will it be driving in mostly, or for what situiation do you wnat better handeling

montecarloss.com has ALOT of info on g-bodies.

You could start by looking up some of "Marcus"'s posts. He is a vender on there and has some good parts.


Your suspension in the front has many "issues". I think the biggest one is that the roll center is under ground.

Marcus sells some custom "tall" ball joints that will bring the roll center above ground and get rid of almost all of the factory bump steer.

You can also swap in B-body 12" spindles/brakes which will fix the roll center and give you better brakes. the bad news is that it also increases bump steer and you need new upper A-arms.

I went with the B-body brake swap on my s10 (same suspension as a g-body).

Good advice Triaged,

The chassis you have is used on thousands of IMCA modified cars (the front end anyway). You'll want to look at what they are doing. As Triaged said, the B body spindle and rotor swap is a good deal. you can get AFCO upper a-arms for about $45 each. To correct the bump steer use a different drag link and different tie rods. The tie rods have a heim on the outside and you use a special adjuster bolt to adjust the height. Drag link is $30, tie rods are $40 each complete and the adjuster is $10 each. This will cure your front end problems for sure. These are prices out of my Speedway Motors catalog. Speedway Motors

Then it's on to springs and shocks and maybe sway bars depending on what you've done with springs. Of course you can always start by stuffing the biggest, stickiest tires you can fit correctly up under the wheel wells.

The main thing is to develop a complete plan based on what has been successful for others. This will keep you from wasting money on the trick of the day.

Easy, besides aluminum wheels & tires, get sway bars from an SS.
