Harbor Freight cap pressure
I purchased a Harbor Freight HVLP spray gun.I was interested in finding out if this gun was really an HVLP.
what I did was to drill and tap the air cap with a 10/32 nd tap and inserted a barb fitting with a hose and air gauge. This is what I found: reg pressure Air cap 40 PSI 8 PSI 45 PSI 9 PSI 50 PSI 10 PSI This is assumming the air regulato and gauge supplied with the gun is accurate.I will try to test that also. It seems this gun is actually HVLP.(gun was the gravity feed with the purple handle.

Which gun? The full size or the touch up?

It was the full size gun.I tested the regulator that came with the gun and it was only off by 1 PSI.

Would that be this gun by chance?
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=90977 If so, they say it only requires 5.9 cfm @ 29psi, which would work well with my compressor.

Don't worry Willys. Everybody I know walks out of Harbor Freight with a little drool on the corner of their mouths. Both arms are too full of stuff to wipe their mouths.

Yeah. I went to the store last night and saw the one with the purple handle, and on the box it said something like 9.5 cfm @ 50#, so I figured it was different than the one I posted the link to.
Guess I'll have to order it. I think my compressor would puke if I hooked that one up to it.

I just received this gun in the mail yesterday. Along with three other boxes of stuff (can't beat free shipping!). Glad to here it was a killer buy. I'll have to hook it up this weekend and try it out. I also purchased 1.3 MM SPRAY GUN NOZZLE SET ITEM 45394-1VGA $19.99.

Did you get the 90977?
I just wonder if the tips from the other gun require the higher CFM. Most front fittings are the same so they would go on there. BTW- Tractor supply has a new line called "Farmhand" that has a gun that looks just like that for the same price. Same specs. Grafity feed but doesn't say HVLP on the box. There is also a touchup gun for 49.99 that squirts up to a six inch fan. Seth
