hard start

hi i have two issues recently i changed my intake bolts and some coolant leaked into oil can i assume the leak is resealed with retorque? there is some foam in the valve covers but not sure if its still leaking or if that was it .would a system pressure test be the best confirmation ? next, moved my battery to trunk used welding cable for pos. and negative starts fine cold but barely turns over when hot unless i hook up second battery at engine .ground is good could these two issues be connected could coolant be getting into cyl causing hydraulicing ?

Did you put a little sealant on the threads. if so you'll know you're fine , if not maybe or maybe not. What size welding cable? I would use a min. of 2 gauge cable. If you have good cable and connections I'd would suspect yhe starter soleniod if it's a gm. If t's a gm you might try installing a jumper wire from the start terminal to the B+ terminal and installing a ford soleniod in the battery cable.

Many of the intake bolts go into the water jackets and will leak if you don't put a sealer on them when you install them. I use Permatex but you can use a silicon based sealer or pipe thread sealer. The hard starting when hot is a timing issue. Set the timing correctly and that problem will likely disappear.

Make sure mechanical advance is working properly and not froze up.

When you changed the intake bolts did you do them one at a time?
If not you might need to replace the intake gaskets.
I ran a battery in the trunk of my 56. Had starting problems too until I ran a seperate ground cable from the battery back to the motor. Didn't seem to have a good ground thru the frame connections.

X2, you can't seem to have too many grounds.
