If people don't know... Harley-Davidson does Factory Tours! I went up to the factory in York, PA a few weeks ago and it was a very cool experience. I had never been in a manufacturing facility before, and the fact they were building motorcycles made it even better!

The tours are Free! Usually they only run the tours during the week, but until the end of August they are doing Saturday tours in York. The Saturday tours at the York facility run on Saturdays from 9:30AM–1PM, during the week 9:00AM-2:00PM. At the Wauwatosa, WI and Kansas City, MI plants they are running tours on Saturday until September 5, between 10AM–1PM.

I'd get there early since it gets very busy in the late afternoon. Also they give you a button to show that you've been there, and a postcard which they will mail anywhere. I'd pass this along to anyone you know who'd be interested!

My Dad and I had taken a tour back in '93 - '94 (somewhere around there - I remember cause they had just brought out the Bad Boy Springer Softtail that I really liked), and it was really neat to see everything in action. One of the neatest things to watch were the workers that were assembling the spoke rims - it was amazing how fast they moved (all hand-assembled, no machines for this task).

Back then (don't know if they still do or not) they also had a separate area with most all of their lineup available for show & tell - check the bikes out, see how they felt, etc.

Overall, It was a very nice experience.

Apparently the Harley-Davidson Factory in York, PA will be having an Open House from September 24-26. That means you can Tour all the facilities! Usually the tour only take you through the Factory where they make the Touring bikes. During this time though you can do Self-Guided tours through the Touring and Softail facilities. They will also have demo rides during this even for the new 2010 models. If you get a chance this would be a good weekend to go up.
