Harmonic balancer 305/350

How can you tell the difference between a balancer for a 305 or a 350
or doesn't it make any difference? the engine is a 92 350 but I have several balancers and somehow they got intermingled they all look the same condition and sizewise. Thanks, Eric

In most cases the 305 used a wide hollow balancer about 6 inches tall, 350`s came with the solid 6 inch balancer or solid 8 inch balancer. All small block chevy generation 1 balancers are interchangeable anyways except the 400 small block and the vortec engines of 1996 and later.

The ones I have are not as I'm taking you to say solid they are for lack of a better term webbed. Three arms, so they are all right to use on the 350?
Thanks, Eric

If they are off of SBC but not a 400 you can use them. The 400 was externally balanced and the others were internally balanced.

I said solid because the factory balancer is 2 pieces, the webbed section is where the bolt holes are, then there is a rubber ring and pressed on is the outer section, the outer section being solid on 350 balancers, and hollow on 305 balancers.

Thank you for your help, I wasn't sure and I'd rather find out from someone that knows before I drop it in. Thanks again.

Jsust because it fits and balances, doesn't mean that it will dampen the harmonics of the crankshaft. that is, keep it from fatiguing and breaking.
