which Harmonic Balancer for sbc? big or small?

for a internally balanced 406 sbc with a 4340 crank (if it matters), which harmonic balancer would be better? a 6.75" or a 8.00"? i bought a sfi approved 8.00" balancer , but damn that thing is heavy. will the weight of the big balancer hurt anything, or would i be better off with a smaller balancer? any advantages of either?

thanks

I ran into the same issue as my stock-replacement Pioneer balancer slipped on my internally-balanced 408. I went with the TCI 7 1/4" balancer. I looked at all the balancers on the market including 6 3/4" and 8" balancers and decided to go with a 7 1/4" damper to give me a little less weight then the 8" but still provide me with enough balancer mass to control the harmonics of the 3.75 stroke (for my piece of mind). I went with TCI because I have heard horror stories on the Fluidampr plus running in the mud I didn't want any chance of water getting in the balancer due to the elastomer having a pinhole. The lighter and smaller balancer will provide quicker response for your motor to rev along with less weight on the crank snout
