I have an 80 to 85 350. The guy took off the long water pump so it fits into a t bucket so now I CANNOT TIME IT CORRECTLY. What year harmonic do I use so I can time it with the timing gauge on the side
Not sure what changing water pump lengths would do to change timing marks? I changed to short water pumps on both of my SBC and BBC engines, and still use the same timing tab and balancers.
The '79-85 engines with the timing tabs at 12 o'clock high are impossible to read when a short pump is added, it blocks your view too much.
Adding either the 2 o'clock or 2:30 o'clock tab and re-line marking the balancer is the easiest choice here, then just ignore the top tab and original line.
