im building an 81 chevy half ton 2 wheel drive truck i put the motor and trans in the other night and my friend that is helping me said that i needed to find a thing that goes in my frame he said it holds the shifter in place and keeps it from comming out of park and stuff he said that it goes in the frame and looks like a half moon shaped ball bearing thing has anyone ever heard of this kinda thing he said that just about every time you take a tranny out you loose this thing but i have no clue what it is can someone help me here thanks guys

Yes,I believe it is made out of nylon or some form of plastic,Its shaped like a ball,About a inch and a quarter in diameter, cut in half with about a 1/2 in. hole in it.The shaft that goes from the frame to your trans selector fits in it and it acts as a brng and is free to move with the eng & trans.If you lost yours,should be an easy find in any scrap yard....good luck

thanks for the responce i went to a salvage yard today and they gave me what they think it is tell me if this sounds right it bolts on the frame and has a bar comming out of it and a piece of shifter linkage that goes to the trans where it bolts to the frame and the bar is there is a nut holding the bar on the part that bolts to the frame and the bar that sticks out has a hole in the other end that is just an open hole best i can tell so if this is the right part should that bar have an open hole in the end or does something go there too hope i didnt confuse you with this too much and thanks again for the help
