Have you heard about overtime??

This is not about Hot Rods but we've been watching this bill that the Bush administration is tryin to push through congress. Acording to this bill if you have certain professional certifactions or licences your emploryer will no longer have to pay overtime. I know we are very concered about this thing and I think everyone else should too!!
Now we've been following it but we've not seen very much in the press about it only a couple of times has a story been in the papers about it.
Any of you other folks know about this or have heard about it??

David

I am one of those on the bubble. If your base salary is over $65,000 per year, like me, you may no longer be entitled to the time and a half for overtime. I'll research the bill and get back to you.

it's a major issue here where i live. its b/s there's millions of people who depend on overtime just to be able to pay there bills. far as i'm concerned bush is nothing more than a commie and the faster we get rid of him the better. he's killing us
he also wants to tell people what they can and can't listen to on the radio. oh and lets not forget how he got in to the national gaurd and did or didn't do his service but lands on a aircraft carrier running around in a flight suit like he just won world war 3.
i have as much respect for our presidents as the next guy but this guy is off kilter in a big way we need to get him out as soon as possible before he does something that no one can fix. the guy is just plain scary kerry has my vote.........

Just for the record I did 17 months.

Anyone thinking of voting for this clown needs to consider the following. I did two tours with the 3rd Marine Division in Vietnam and nobody I ever heard of picked up hardware like this in four months. Maybe our friends in the press can apply some of the same nausea they are applying to 'W' and dig into this 'hero's' record.

I know nothing about "Swift Boat" tactics so I can't judge the
veracity of this letter. Maybe a more knowledgeable classmate can
shine some light on this. It was forwarded to me by a high school
classmate, USNA grad ('59) and Rear Admiral (Ret.)

Subject: John Kerry...You decide

Sent to me by an old shipmate....

I was in the Delta shortly after he left. I know that area well. I
know the operations he was involved in well. I know the tactics and
the doctrine used. I know the equipment. Although I was attached to
CTF-116 (PBRs) I spent a fair amount of time with CTF-115 (swift
boats), Kerry's command.

Here are my problems and suspicions:

(1) Kerry was in-country less than four months and collected, a Bronze
Star, a Silver Star and three purple hearts. I never heard of anybody
with any outfit I worked with (including SEAL One, the Sea Wolves,
Riverines and the River Patrol Force) collecting that much hardware so
fast, and for such pedestrian actions. The Swifts did a commendable
job. But that duty wasn't the worst you could draw. They operated only
along the coast and in the major rivers (Bassac and Mekong). The
rough stuff in the hot areas was mainly handled by the smaller, faster
PBRs.

(2) Three Purple Hearts but no limp. All injuries so minor that no
time lost from duty. Amazing luck. Or he was putting himself in for
medals every time he bumped his head on the wheel house hatch? Combat
on the boats was almost always at close range. You didn't have minor
wounds. At least not often. Not three times in a row. Then he used
the three purple hearts to request a trip home eight months before the
end of his tour. Fishy.

(3) The details of the event for which he was given the Silver Star
make no sense at all. Supposedly, a B-40 was fired at the boat and
missed. Charlie jumps up with the launcher in his hand, the bow
gunner knocks him down with the twin .50, Kerry beaches the boat,
jumps off, shoots Charlie, and retreives the launcher. If true, he
did everything wrong.
(a) Standard procedure when you took rocket fire was to put your
stern to the action and go balls to the wall. A B-40 has the
ballistic integrity of a frisbie after about 25 yards, so you put 50
yards or so between you and the beach and begin raking it with your
.50's.
(b) Did you ever see anybody get knocked down with a .50 caliber
round and get up? The guy was dead or dying. The rocket launcher was
empty. There was no reason to go after him (except if you knew he was
no danger to you just flopping around in the dust during his last few
seconds on earth, and you wanted some derring do in your after-action
report). And we didn't shoot wounded people. We had rules against
that, too.
(c) Kerry got off the boat. This was a major breach of standing
procedures. Nobody on a boat crew ever got off a boat in a hot area.
EVER! The reason was simple. If you had somebody on the beach your
boat was defenseless. It coudn't run and it couldn' t return fire. It
was stupid and it put his crew in danger. He should have been
relieved and reprimanded. I never heard of any boat crewman ever
leaving a boat during or after a firefight.

Something is fishy.

Here we have a JFK wannabe (the guy Halsey wanted to court martial for
carelessly losing his boat and getting a couple people killed by
running across the bow of a Jap destroyer) who is hardly in Vietnam
long enough to get good tan, collects medals faster than Audie Murphy
in a job where lots of medals weren't common, gets sent home eight
months early, requests separation from active duty a few months after
that so he can run for Congress, finds out war heros don't sell well
in Massachsetts in 1970 so reinvents himself as Jane Fonda, throws his
ribbons in the dirt with the cameras running to jump start his
political career, gets Stillborn Pell to invite him to address
Congress and Bobby Kennedy's speechwriter to do the heavy lifting,
winds up in the Senate himself a few years later, votes against every
major defense bill, says the CIA is irrelevant after the Wall came
down, votes against the Gulf War, a big mistake since that turned out
well, decides not to make the same mistake twice so votes for invading
Iraq, but oops, that didn't turn out so well so he now says he really
didn't mean for Bush to go to war when he voted to allow him to go to
war.

I'm real glad you or I never had this guy covering out flanks in
Vietnam. I sure don't want him as Commander in Chief. I hope that
somebody from CTF-115 shows up with some facts challenging Kerry's
Vietnam record. I know in my gut it's wildy inflated. And fishy.

Keep smiling,

Mike

I've worked as a staff engineer for 35 years, put in average 10hr days the entire time (often without a lunch break), been on call to go to the field 24/7 and never got any overtime. I don't think Bush's law will have much impact!

Companies have the ability to make any position salaried, with no OT. Why make it a law? Seems a little overboard, what's the economic crisis that this law will solve? Talk about micromanaging.

OK, talking about the elections is not what I had in mind for this, that will be seen at a later time.
I know allot of jobs can be salaried but Willys I have to disagree with the impact. There are allot of people that do depend on a certain amount of over time in each check. No I'm not one of them. Now I can see some flack coming from this but I'm going to use it as an example, I work a 24 on/24 off shift, now with travel time, shift changes, late calls and so on we figure we spend about 52% of our lives away from our families. Now during our brush fire season we can be called back and work for what ever time is needed so that can be added in also. If I work one shift over time thats two regular shifts and one over time (72 hours total at work). I make in pocket right at $396.00. Now is it right to ask me or anyone else to give up more time from wife and kids and loose the extra money too?? Sorry I just don't think its right.

David

I would LOVE to supervise the living arrangements for our governments officials for one year at the wage I make $24,000.00 this year IF I'M LUCKY, and I have been third shift 6 nights a week for 12 years and 1 month now.

My job is in the scope of the companywide 2% reduction and the most cost effective way my company has made it know it can do this without losing any personnel is to drop our sixth night which is overtime.

I am already losing the overtime EVERY time I use personal, FMLA, vacation, jury duty, or other paid time off.

I DO NOT like my job but I don't really mind the work, at one time I was asked to do other duties outside the main scope of my position and did them as my regular work was able to be rearranged to finish everything.

Now I only do the things listed on the two page job position description, and NOTHING else as I won't get paid level 6 pay for a level 6 job as long as my total time for the year does not equal 51% to demand the higher pay. I get paid at the level 2 grade out of 7, the only ones lower are part time and seasonal employees, And I am qualified for a level 6 position with paperwork to prove it.

Thanks boss. Thanks Mr. President.

I think everyone should look at the actual bill, before jumping to conclusions. OT pay would cover MORE workers than it does now! It would not be mandated in a very few high paying white collar jobs. A large number of jobs that do not qualify for OT presently, would now get OT benefits. Some types of farm work and other entry type jobs would now include OT pay. Collective bargaining agreements will not be affected. Just one more lie from John F(onda) Kerry to flim flam the lemmings.
Does poor John Kerry pay OT to his servants at the mansion? How 'bout the deck hands on his yacht????? The Boston Hearld had an article about how he was berating and screaming at the deckhands on his yacht on Martha's Vineyard........i wonder who they will vote for?

Sounds to me like he wants to eliminate overtime in the civil service positions that are unionized.
