having trouble deciding

i havent posted in a hwile but here goes.

1953 merc m 350

this is my plan here

i have the 53 body on its frame but figuring as its a one ton i dont want all the extra weight.

no i have an 87 pick up hanging out

after i puller the front clip off the 53 i looked at the frame and i figure its not soo bad actually. it about hte same size.

so heres my delemma.

use the 87 frame w/ 460 c6

or find a clip for the 53? and build the mounts for the 460?

the 460 is from a 73 merc marquis 2dr

do you think its better to build my own frame and front end on the 53 frame or to use the 87 put a set of mounts on and rebuild the front end(blown drag link balljoint) and use that?

this will be my daily driver, so i may put a 351m in it pending on gas prices.

but asfar as right now its all 460 and c6

and i have the option for 9" on the 87. i have a totally rebuilt one laying around.

re: having trouble deciding

Comes down to a budget question in my mind..since you already have most of the pieces it may be the way to go to use the 87 chassis as long as it fits and the look is good for what you want..putting the clip on (say a Mustang II) is a good idea but then can be a bit spendy..

I take it this is a Canadian Ford truck..they call em Mercs up there..or they did..

Just my take..

ok

cool, well i dont really have a budget i guess, i just go by what i have and get in trades and stuff. the only money i have really put in was

hood 250$
primer 115$
tire tube 15$
donor motor car 500$
9" from my old 78 330$
i have a keg for a fuel tank
i traded a chev hood and tail gates for my rims
i got the merc for free.

so pretty much that and gas for towing it around

as far as the clip goes... m11's are pretty rare up here. lotsa ol dodges. but im not confident enought in my suspension building skills.i really dont want it dog tracking. the 87 has a wore out 302 in it and id be doing a direct swap...i just hope 87 460 mounts will accept the 73 bb..i have the old crossmemebers for the tranny to be bolted in where ever needed.im not sure what i should do with the long box i want something cool but i mena depending on th cab and engine position, i may be building a complete custom box.
