Studs have their pros (better clamping, less block thread wear) as well as cons (seepage and possible interference, as in tight fit to the head). If you don't need them why bother? On the other hand, studs are the way to go, IMO. As for head gaskets, you're going to get as many replies as there are head gasket mfrs. Just don't cheap out when you buy them.
