Head gasket coolant flow question

While removing my heads to do some work I noticed That the wholes from the block to the manifold coolant cross over are alot bigger then the wholes in the gasket. Is this done on purpose to restrict the flow? would making the gasket wholes bigger improve cooling? its a sbc by the way. just curious

Screwing around with the holes will only give you a lot of cooling problems
