hey guys , hope you can help me before i freeze to death.i have a 94 3.0 litre dodge mini van.
(daily driver)(baby hauler).i go through about 1 gal of rad antifreeze a month ,its not in the oil, or in any amount on the driveway.but it goes. i have a new thermostat wich does almost nothing. when cold start the thermostat goes to 1/2 way in normal time, but there is no heat until i drive about 10 miles. on the highway when the throttle is on steady i get good heat, but around town when the van is idling in traffic there is none, once the peddle goes back down for a moment the heat returns .i would say thermostat leaking slowly, but wheres the fluid going? the only thing i can figure is the head gasket letting the antifreeze bypass the thermostat and the whole amount in the rad must be heated .in order to get heat??? please help me as i know not what i am doink. thanks in advance mike weyman

Its going out the exhaust pipe. Sounds like a head gasket to me.

Coolant flows when therm opens
Your description tells me your getting heat for a little time when the thermostat opens and the heater core fills up. The return takes it down--you get cold air. Your level is low just the same. Check your exhaust for white, and see if it collects on top of the engine (which may boil off). I think its a head gasket too. Never let the radiator get dry, don't get burned.

leak....
Hi,if the anti freeze (and water) is going out the tail pipe, you will smell a sweet smell. check it with your nose.(carefully) the carbon monoxide will poison you.
