which head gaskets

I'm looking for the correct head gaskets (part number if possible), for my 355 chevy short block. I will be using vortec heads.

Thanks, Brian

Brian,
Welcome to the site! Vortec heads don't require special head gaskets, so any good quality aftermarket gasket will work. Victor-Reinz #1178VC is a good choice and can be found at most auto parts stores, including NAPA and CarQuest. Fel-Pro and Corteco also have quality head gaskets.

Make sure the heads have been resurfaced. The Vortec and TBI heads have a crappy surface finish and they are rarely straight to start with. I personally would recommend the Fel-Pro 501SD. It's the new HD Chevy SB gasket. It has thicker armor and is even better thatn the 7733PT2, the standard stock replacement gasket. I personally don't care for Victor head gaskets.

GM gaskets are always a good choice, however you must remember that GM gaskets, including head gaskets, are manufactured by Victor-Reinz and Fel-Pro primarily. Corteco, Rol and some small gasket companies also supply gaskets to them. Same can be said about Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, Caterpillar, Mack, etc., etc.
