Great. I have a fuel mileage carb, I'm going to re-calibrate it though, Edel 1406, and California heads. I'll get the casting number. Just not right now...
The only thing that counts is the casting number 398991 there is no 399991 head this is a sometimes problem with reading the rough casting numbers. The 398991 is an early open chamber 75cc low compression head. They spin different part numbers since they came on 307s and 350s with different size valves and the last production had induction hardened seats. Unless you need them for a racing class they are just scrap metal. These gems were used between 1968 and 1976
That's your classic early 70's smog head. 75 cc chambers.Used on 350 & 307 motors.Not a good choice for any type of performance build.IIRC,they will 1.72" valves.
Yep, casting numbers can be fun to figure out. That's why I posted pix too. If you click on the pix they enlarge pretty good. What about the other head? I thought the casting numbers should match, but not necessarily so?
Now that I reread your response oldbogie, it looks like you answered the ? about the different casting numbers... Thanks..
So these heads sound like basically boat anchors.......
