Head and Intake Choice

I've decided to step up my performance a little bit and switch to a set of vortec heads and intake. Only problem is I'm not sure which ones to go for. I've got a 72 350, I've heard you have to have a specific style to fit on an older block. Is there any numbers I should be looking for or can anyone provided links? Any help is appreciated!

So far this is what I'm looking at. Will this work?

The intake will work, the head listing is unclear as to what heads you would be getting.

It looks to me like it says they replace 882 heads, which if I'm not mistaken are what I have on there right now. Also, I've got stamped steel roller rockers, I'd imagine id be able to swap those over correct?

If they replace what you have then there is no sense on changing. And if you switch from non vortec heads to vortec heads you either need new rockers or need to modify them for guideplates. I would keep looking on those heads.

If I am not mistaken don't center bolt Vortec heads use a different shaped rocker vs. non-vortec to clear the valve cover fasteners? Regardless of guide plate.

Of the heads listed, you want the casting number 10239906. The other Vortec L31 5.7L head that will work is c/n 12558062.

Vortec heads require what are known as "self aligning" rocker arms. CLICK for some more info on Vortec heads and mods to them, etc.

Below are views of the cast-in identifiers for each head. Left is c/n 062, right is c/n 906.
