Header clearance 4.3 v6 tbi 91 Astro

First time hotrod builder. 1951 Chevy shortbox pickup. Donor vehicle is 91 Astro, 4.3 v6 TBI. Just installed the stock headers and having steering clearance issues. Using Borgeson knuckles, heim joint, dampening knuckle, & DD shaft. I am considering using an aftermarket header to help get the clearance required. I have gone online and researched many different types of headers from weld in kits to ready to install units. Before I order & because I have no previous experience, I'm hoping someone can give me some guidance as to what type of header will work & fit my application?
As you will see in the attached pics, I am using wooden dowels to determine the right lengths & mockup before cutting the DD shaft to the best possible lenghts for the application. So far the best I can get is about 3/8" clearance between the shaft and the stock header. Would it be a good Idea to consider a heat shield?
