Every type of coating I`ve used rusted off in weeks. If the headers are new you must sand them down or have them blasted, then use a degreaser or wax remover to make sure they are spotlessly clean. Eastwood coatings carries a coating that applies with a brush that is said to work great and looks nice too.

Eastwood paint will burn off....been there, done that. I have never seen ANY type of header paint that will NOT burn off. Even the hi-temp powdercoating that eastwood has does burn off. Don't waste your time and money on paint.
Your best bet is to have them ceramic coated, like Jet-Hot, if you want them to look good and stay that way |

Only paint I've seen have any success at all is John Deere Muffler Black. It will last ONE complete summer intact if applied to blasted clean headers but will rust over the winter if not in a climate controlled area.
The only thing that is durable for longer is a Metallic-Ceramic coating like Nitroplate, Jet-Hot, or Q.C. Coatings. |

I have a set of Hooker super comp headers jet hot coated and they`re rusty. They don`t have 2000 miles on them.

damn, maybe i should just wrap them, but then i heard moisture gets in that stuff and speeds up the rust, oh well, at least headers arnt super expensive-gotta get to work, mike

Double, did you buy them from Hooker with the coating already on them or buy them bare and ship them to Jet-Hot for coating?? I made the mistake of buying Hedman's pre-coated and they started rusting before the year was out, friends Hookers did the same thing. Sent the Hookers to Jet-Hot to be re-done and they are perfect 4 years later. The coating most of the header makers use is NOT up to Jet-Hot quality standards, it seems to just be a hi-heat powder coat and not a Metallic-Ceramic coating. I'll never buy a header company coated header again, I buy them bare and send them out for the correct coating. |
