header q's

I was wondering if anyone out there has a 454 in a 70's trans am and knows what kind of headers will clear. I bought headers already and we had to do a little tweaking to get the plugs to fit but as we went to install them they hit everywhere and dont fit. So 800 down the drain. But i still need some. Im looking for atleast a 2 and an eighth full length. The ones that didnt fit were 2.25. Also if anyone can tell me I thought that the sub frames on camaro and trans am were the same but recently was told there different. The headers I've found are for a 70 to 74 396-402 in a camaro. Will these fit my 79 trans with a 454?

Sub-frame is the same in the engine area. Only difference between early 70's and late 70's is at the body attachment points.

The headers for the big block Camaro should fit,but you may be trying to squezze too big of a primary tube in there. What kind of a monster are you putting in there that needs that big of a tube ?? From my experience of putting a set of 2 inch Hookers made for the A body Chevelle into my big block G body Monte Carlo,be prepared to do lots of modifications.I had to trim a motor mount,re-design the clutch Z bar, move the brake proportioning valve, modify the right side lower control arm mount, dimple a couple of tubes, and make a custom made wrench to get a couple of plugs in & out.
It took a couple of days to get it right !!!

the engines a 504 stroker, glorified 454 but its 704 at the flywheel. The problem is that if you try to order heaaders for this you have to order for a 70-74 camaro with a big block and i didnt know if those would work or not.
