Headers for 383 with vortec heads

I have an '87 Cutlass that I put a 383 crate motor into a few years ago. When I tried to put the headers on, I found that there are clearance issues with the spark plugs. I ended up having to pound divots in the headers to get by and get it out of the shop. I think this is because it has vortec heads. Do the vortec heads have a different spark plug arrangement than regular Chevy heads? I have never been able to compare them side by side.

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for headers that will fit this car? This motor is a pretty tight fit under the hood, so I don't have much room to work with. Thanks in advance!!!

Do you know what engine the cutlass originally had? My 85 had a 305 (which should be the same size as the 383 if it was built from a 350 block)

I dont remember the vortech heads having diferent sparkplug holes, the main difference i remember is the bolt hole direction for the intake manifold (if the bolt heads pointed straight up or the same angle as the head)

If the heads are for a SBC and the exhaust headers are for a SBC (except the lt1) then everything should bolt up as long as the sparkplugs arent too long for some reason. The important reason you cant use the LT1 exhaust manifold is because the LT1 heads have a D shaped exhaust port.

Good luck
