headers
What brand headers will fit my 351-w engine in a 49 ford tudor sedan? I have a Fat Man rack&pinion steering kit with a cast iron factory header on the drivers side. Mustang shorty header is currently on pass. side

re: headers
Is it a tight area aroud the block? Or do you just need headers. If its tight I know they sell special headers for use for swapping a 351 into a fox body mustang. Those might work for you if you have a space issue.

Headers for your FORD
The best bet is to use headers designed to be run in Ford Chassis that have close interference between the frame rails and the block. IE: headers for an early Mustang, a Granada, or Maverick.
Unless you are running a really stoked engine, with big valves etc, I would opt for 1 1/2 inch or 1 5/8ths primary tube headers, You could run Mustang Shorty headers on both sides, but the problem with them is due to the shortness of the runners, they just dont produce the power the longer tubes do. It seems that regardless of the engine size, primary header tube length ideally needs to be in the area of 30-48 inches. |
