Headers with stock exhaust?

How would headers with the stock exhaust system work? I want this pair of Summit headers for only $130, but I dont have the extra cash to get a nice catback for $500, and I cant delete the cat due to CA smog problems. Should I slap on the headers with the stock system? Will the stock exhaust still be too restrictive? Or should I get the headers and get a Y pipe and put that in after the cat and make it custom?

Headers with a stock exhaust is pretty common... do one piece at a time as you can afford it.
