Well the good and the bad.....after we primed the oil pump, got the ignition right on #1, carb full of gas this thing fired off after maybe 1/2 rotation and WHOLEY CHIT did it sound HEALTHY. 507 c.i. through open 4 into 1 headers. I was in the cell (ear plugs of course) with Glenn Snow (son) who had the timing light and Earl Snow (Dad) was at the controls. Glenn was checking the timing and I was looking for leaks or anything abnormal....no leaks, timing was close so Earl took it up to 2500 rpm for the cam break in.
Man o' man did it sound gooooood!! then at 2.2 min. it just shut off like someone hit the mag switch. We all looked at each other with that WTF just happened look on our faces.
Anyway Earl killed the big fan and came into the cell, we all agreed that it had to be ignition so I pulled the cap off of the "Dave's Small Body" HEI dist. and bingo....one of the little pins that hold the advance weights had broken off and somehow broke off 1 of the 8 fins (?) on the reluctor wheel.
That ended the dyno day, the dist is on it's way back to Yerrington, Nv. which is close to me and I should have it back by next Weds. The Cad will be resting peacefully on the dyno till then as Snow Perf has no one scheduled before then. I also have to say that Earl and Glenn are 2 of the nicest and most understanding guy's I have ever worked with. Earl said....don't sweat it, we'll have it back running like a champ.
Not going to lose any sleep over this little deal, just one of those things that can happen. I'm actually glad it happened now instead of out on the road in the middle of no where....which we have a lot of out here. Looking forward to continuing the dyno session and I'll have some video of it along with pics. By the way Spinn, the color is Cummins beige.
