Headlight problem.

My problem is not with a classic car but with a '93 Infiniti. Both headlights work for a few minutes, then the right bulb goes out. When I put on the high beams, sometimes they start working again, then turn off. When I turn the high beams off, sometimes both headlights stop working. After a few more minutes they work properly again. It's very fustrating. Can someone please help me with this problem. I have already changed the headlight/combination switch and replaced both headlight bulbs. Also, I'm not sure if there's any relation, but the CD/radio hasn't been working for quite some time and the interior dash lights do not illuminate.
Thanks for reading.

Checks

Doc here,

First check the fuse panel and replace ALL the bad ones...(like CD/Radio Ect..some times this is used to power relays in the system also)

Check and replace if necessary the INSTR fuse..that should bring the panel lights back..does it pop when you turn the dome or CD on? If so you have a short between them.

Next look for a Headlight relay, usually under the dash but could also be in the engine bay...Does it HAVE one at all? and if so is it tight in its base? Check that...and / or replace the relay.

If that doesn't Cure the problem, go to the headlights them-self, With them on and working, shake the harness, is it intermittent? Check the connections and GROUNDS! Corrosion and loose grounds are the most probable causes out here..make sure everything is clean and bonded well.

If you have Halogen lights, with a cotton glove or tissue towel, pull the bulb and inspect the socket...is it clean and not corroded? DO NOT get your fingers on the bulb..The oil on your skin will settle on the lamp and shorten it's life (or explode)

That should find the problem for you...If not..were all here!

Doc

Thanks for all of your help. The headlight was fixed. I had a faulty relay. The dealership said they're notorious for malfunctioning. I bought the new relay and installed it myself.
