headlight switch

I'm changing my 54 ford to 12v and want to keep the dash as orig as possible. I've been told that I can use the 6v headlight switch as long as the rheostat is locked in the fully bright position. Has anyone done this? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks, Joe

To the best of my knowledge the headlight switch is actually stronger so it can be used with 12 volts no problem. The gauges are what matters and the bulbs, everything else is fine.I did this on a 49 F1.

headlight switch

All of the bulbs have been changed and I have voltage drops for the gauges. If I could find a helicoil that goes from std thread to metric I could probably use the Ron Francis switch, but having a metric part on that car feels wrong.
I'll probably get a new 54 headlight switch and keep one hand on the fire extinguisher for a while. Joe
