About all I can think of is tape it up for now..just save it for a pattern when you get around to replacing it..

Unioncreek: You can try a hot glue gun, or hand stitch it with a small curved needle. The thread is probably cotton and has deteriorated. Don't try to make a headliner when you can buy one for your car for $150 on the 'net. Websites like Kanter, etc.
