Will they all equally good on the 283 or are the 416's the better of the three?

It depend on the bolt pattern on the valve cover and intake manifold. They all work fine.

The '416 HO heads do not require a different intake manifold, the bolt pattern is the same as your 283 intake. As for the road draft tube, you can use the PCV setup from a '63-'67 SBC. It mounts in place of the road draft tube and you can still run old style valve covers if you prefer.

You may have been thinking of the '081 center bolt 305 TPI heads which have very similar ports.

283 w/HO 305 heads

does anybody know if i would need to change the push-rods and lifters in my 283 to accommodate the 614 heads?
