Which Heads to use?

Hi. Ive got a 1985 chevy 305HO. im putting it back together pretty much stock. stock crank & rods, flat top pistons, and a crane compucam 2050 (.454int/480ext lift, 216/228@.50) camshaft. ive got 2 sets of heads. a set of 416 casting 58cc heads, or some 53cc heads of of an '86 305 truck engine. the 58cc heads will put me at about 9.5:1 compression. the 53cc heads should be around 10.7:1. which should i use? i was gonna use the 53cc heads for the added compression, but now i dont know what i should use. i want to be able to run on 91-93 octane. can i do that with the 53cc heads? thanks for any help.

53cc heads? never heard of them .are you sure it;s from a 305 and not a 283 or something,i would use the 305 ho motor heads cause they should have slighty bigger valves

yep. there casting number is 14022601...80-86...267/305......1.72"/1.5" or 1.84"/1.5" valves, 53cc chambers. both sets of heads have 1.84/1.50 valves.

use the 58cc heads. you don't want 10.7.1 compression on pump gas. 9.5.1 on iron heads is about max with close listening for pinging

9.5:1 is a good match to compression for that cam on premium pump gas... but both of those heads flow terribly. You have a cam and compression that will shine from 2000-6000 and head flow that will be more suited to 1000-4500.

Might want to spend some time porting or you might end up disappointed.
