Hei distributor Help!

I read a couple post but didn't sound like we had the same problem. I have a 73 impala it had the points set up, coil had resestor wire on the side which connected with th starter wires on coil of coures to reduce the voltage. I had no problem with this set up but need to upgrade.

I installed an new Hei distributor with a 65,000 volt coil, I have a 383 stroker. It calls for a constant 12v supply. I installed it my ?'s are do I hook up both wires coming from the starter sileniod to the batt side I have no tack, of disributor or just the ing switch by its self from sileniod? The instructions say it needs to be a copper wire at least 10-12 guage, my wire that sets closest to the block was steel not copper(brown color), but the other closest to fender well was smaller yellow in color,but copper. I don't have a ballast resistor and since the wire resistor is no longer there, I should be getting 12 volt or is their a resistor in my harnes or eles were? Problem is no spark, I going to change out the steel wire with a copper 10 guage. Last ? I also have 7mm plug wires for the time being I know I need to upgrade, will they fry or just reduce my voltage from coil. Sry so many ? just new at installing an Hei. OK, somewhere you hit a key and your post got jumbled.......

The original wire from the ing switch to the Dizzy, has resistance built in and needs to be replaced. I'd suggest you replace the whole wire with a new one, instead of trying to replace just the resistance section etc......

Wire from the "I" terminal on starter....... If you are getting 12v from the ing switch in the "start" position, then you should disconnect it from the starter, if no 12v, then connect to batt terminal on the dizzy.

The smaller wires will be ok, but won't be as effective as the larger dia wires.
