HEI Distributor Limits

I recently put an HEI dist (Moroso) in my '62 Corvette and while everything seems to work fine, it seems slow in getting up to higher RPM, especially from 6,000 to 6,500. The engine is a '70 LT-1 short block, Dart Iron Eagle Platinum heads, Edelbrock Torker manifold, Holley #3310 750 carb, Headers, 3:50 Ford 9" rear. Is there anything I can do to get quicker response out of the HEI, or should I look into a different distributor. The engine with the old '62 340hp dist would go to 6,800 rpm easily. I'm open to suggestions and ideas. The dist is set to 36 degrees at approx 2,400 - 2,500 rpm

You could try playing with different springs & weights.Your timing could be coming in just a bit too soon.

An msd or davis module will correct the problem tis is a common fault with hei.But first did you run a 12 volt supply to the dist the original wire has a resistance built in and will cause this.

Curve is correct. It does have 14 volts to the dist. Wire is not run from the old resistor. If I change the module do I have to change the coil too? Are there better HEI distributors that will allow higher revving? It is a street car so I'm looking for reliability also.

coil should be fine the problem is most aftermarket modules do not have the variable dwell feature of the stock module which causes problems in a high demand situation. Also the msd can handle up to 7 amps of current compared to the stockers 5 or so.It will work up to 9000 rpm.
