HEI ignition set up question

I am trying to install a GM HEI distributor in my newly rebuilt 350, my question is, does the distributor body have a mark on it to tell me where the spark will fire?

Hei

Usually they don't. Install the cap and mark on the housing with a marker/paint stick where #1 will fire. When this is marked, usually the connections for the power/tach are facing the rear of the engine.

Bring the number One piston to TDC, when inserting the dist. make sure the rotor button is lined up on the cap with number one and it points to the number one cylinder. One mine, the tach/batt terminals runs parallel to the firewall on the drivers side...
