Post HEI plug wire placement

This is a stupid question I'm sure, but I don't know the answer. So here it goes. I am doing a HEI conversion on my 74. I have all the info I need excet for spark plug wire placement. On the top of the HEI, which one is the number one? I know the firing order, but I don't know where the number one is. Please help! Rodney, Colorado Springs.

If you have not pulled the distributor out yet, you can line up the timing marks. You want the rotor to point to the plug wire that go`s to the front right cylinder on the driver`s side. This is no.#1 The firing order is cast into the top of the intake manifold if it is a stock intake.

If the dist is out.Pull the No.#1 spark plug, have some one turn the engine over. Just bump it. With your finger on the spark plug hole , compression will push your finger off when it is on No.#1. Now turn the timing marks to line up.At this point , drop the HEI dist in and line the rotor up to point at the no.#1 plug wire. This will be toward the front right side of the dist cap. Hope this helps, and does not confuse you. Let us know if we can help.
