HEI Wire configuration??

i was wondering if it really mattered where the spark plug wires go on a chevy HEI. I know it has to be in firing order but can i change it around so i don't have one wire going to the opposite side of the distributor? just want to make the engine clean looking. i hope i'm not confusing anyone lol.

as long as 5 & 7 arent too close together, or you'll crossfire.

You can put them anywhere provided you move the distributor to account for their new location.

Several years ago I recall seeing adds in car mags advertising a cap by the name of CROSSFIRE,or something to that nature. It put all 4 wires on the left bank on the left side of the cap,and all 4 wires for the right bank to the right side of the cap.I havent seen that advertisment for a few years.Probably a piece of garbage.
