Heim joint question

While installing the steering components for my rod, my neighbor was helping me. I am using a SS 3/4" Heim joint because I have 3 universals in the steering. My neighbor was fooling with the Heim joint and asked me how they get the center part in the outer race. I could not answer him, because I never gave it a second thought. Anyone got a clue as to how they manufacturer these?

I found out how they do this. The outer housing is machined on one side to accept the ball. The ball is inserted into the outer housing, then the open side is crimped closed by a large press.

Thanks for the info 302, I actually have wondered that. While working on my circle track car, I use a lot of heims, kinda interesting to hear how they're made.
