Well hello people...Jeremy is my name..Iam a newbie to fixing up cars...But i have some common since...Iam 28 and been married man for 11 years..And have a 7 yr old son who likes cars too.I have a 79 mustang..The motor and block is the old school 302 boss...I didnt know that when i bought the car...Till i took the old tranny out and replaced it with a C4..My farther helped me out with installing...He (was watching and instruction )he said i should look at the head while the exhoust was cut..So we took the header off and there was roundest exhoust ports i had ever seen..I didnt know what i was looking at really till he explained it to me..So i got lucky and the car cost me 700 bucks....

The motor as of now..Has a 850 eldbrock carb and the eldbrock alliumn intake..I dont know what cams are in the motor. But the valve springs are double springs..This motor has not got one oil leak and has a mild loap..Also it has the old cheery bomb exhoust..Its a loud mother..

The body of the car has one dent on the drivers side..And the car is so light that i cant get any traction and this is my reason for joining ATM..Iam sure there will be more later on..

Buddy.

if what you listed is the extent to your modifacations, your way over carbed, that little 302 would run a lot better with a 600 - 650 carb. other than that, welcome to the board.

Thanks for the carb info as all these mods came already done to the car...except the C4 i installed and the B&M shirt i put in..

Heres a pic of the carb..I was wrong its a carter preformace ..And on the intake it says preformance 289 so i guess i dont really know WTF i have in that car..All i know is that it has boss heads..

I'm not much of a Ford guy, but that carb is probably a 625 and just because the intake says 289 it's just a small block Ford intake, so your motor could very well be a 302.

And welcome to the board, there are many people here that can help you out with making that thing scream and look good while doing it. ;)

So what you are saying is you have an original Boss 302? Really rare piece of iron for sure. It was only made for a year (between 2 model years) so you have a 69 1/2 through 70 1/2. The way to check if its a Boss 302 for sure is to see if the intake and exhaust valves are "canted" (sitting "kitty-cornered" to each other). If they are, then you will also have 8 valve cover bolts. That would be a very nice find. If the valves are in a "straight-line" then you have a windsor that has been ported and polished (probably). This will have only 6 valve cover bolts.

BTW this is the "head design" that is used to make a 351-"Clevor" which is a Windsor with Cleveland heads.

Take off a valve cover and look at the head. You will see the numbers 289, 302, etc.

O.K., I just had to jump at this one. I'm not sure that your FARTHER was correct in telling you that you have a old school bus 302!! But, It might have been the short bus! Just ribbin' you Bud! Your little 302 is probably very healthy and your stang sounds like a great work in progress! Don't worry about titles and such, and don't worry about a little ribbin'. Humor starts with the same letter as HotRod!!! By the way, I have a chevy 327 Magnum,SCJ,Hemi,TurboJet,L-88,Rotary.....how did that get in there????

OddRodder 10-22-2003 12:34 PM

Hey Budstang, you still out there? Don't let all the replys to your traction problem scare you off, people have had worse starts in here, believe me! Anyway, honest questions and the desire to learn is all a newbie to hot rodding really needs in here. Another hint, there are probably as many of us with $2,000 cars as there are with $50,000 cars. Besides, if you leave, you'll probably be remembered as butt-stank or something childish like that!

Not an old stone fan myself, but can appreciate what you are doing. Doing it witrh pops is way cool as well. Welcome to the Car farm
