I can advise you, having been there and done that many times, that the very best way for a fellow who has not done one of these frame or clip swaps is to retain the Chevy frame and install a bolt-in or weld-in IFS with disc brakes and power steering from one of the aftermarket manufacturers.

I might begin by contacting Classic Trucks and buying a copy of the August 2010 issue of their magazine to begin reading up on the different ways to do this.....
Do It Yourself IFS Install - Classic Trucks Magazine

I'd also contact TCI and other manufacturers and pick their brains to find out all I could about the cost and complexity of using their products in an IFS swap......
TCI Engineering ~ 1-800-984-6259 ~ American Made Street Rods, Hot Rods, Classic Trucks, Ford & Chevy Muscle Cars Suspension Parts. 1955-1959 Classic Truck

I'd also order an original factory shop manual for my truck, either an original printing or a reprint.....

This is my best advice to you. If you had seen all the abortions I've seen with fellows doing frame and clip swaps, you'd give the next fellow the same advice. Don't get me wrong, if a guy has the facilities, tools and knowhow to do it properly, it can turn out very nicely. I can do one properly myself, leaning on my own experience.
