Welcome to the site Barb, Proabably need a re-build but other then it having so many miles, Does any of your angels know how to check to see if it's in time ? And have them take carb cleaner or something similar and spray around the intake and base of the carb and check for leaks, If they fine a leak while spraying the idle will change you will notice it will idle up a little when you hit the leak. But i would say you are more then likely correct about the timing it's probably out of time. If you post your question in the engine section more people will see it and be able to solve your issue JMO. Not everyone checks the intro section. So try to post there a we can see what happens ok. Glad you joined.
I almost forgot post some pics of your ride.
