Hello..need help deciding engine and or engine/tranny swap.

Hi there. My name is John and my main thing is Suzuki Samurais (thus the handle suzukijohn). But I've wanted a street rod for many, many years and I finally bought a 1979 Shay (1929 Ford Roadster remanufactured car) with a Pinto engine and I'm pretty sure a C-4 transmission. Only 40,000 on the car so I at first thought I'd just keep the tranny and try to figure out a way to put a 302 HO in front of it...figured that might be pretty easy for an old man working in his driveway; but a friend suggested I buy a doner car (say a Lincoln Mark VII or Monarch or Mustang or who knows what else) and use the engine/tranny combo that comes with that doner car. Makes me nervous but if the shifting part in the newer transmission isn't too hard (electronics aren't my thing) I'd considering swapping out the engine and tranny together...Hope someone in this forum can give me some good suggestions. Remember I need to "KISS- Keep it simple". Thanks and glad to ge a part of Hotrodders.

Welcome to the site suzukijohn. Lots of info and opinions here. To get the most out of the site check out the Knowledge Base and use the search function for quick answers to your questions. As well check out the Project Journals for info and inspiration.

Using a donor car has been a favorite way to go by many builders. It is one way to know that everything you use from it on your project will be compatible - KISS. Glad to have you here and enjoy the site.
