Hello from a retired geezer
Retired, 65 years old. Interested in hotrodding and racing for the last 50 years.
Been lucky enough to be involved (as a gopher) in dirt track racing in the 1980's, a little Winston Cup in the early 90's. O wned a couple of Corvettes along the way. (62, 69, 89 and now a basket case 86 project car). Wife had a Roadrunner back in the late 60's. Built a couple of offroad vehicles with my son a few years back. Full roll cages, the whole works. Body swaps, engine swaps, etc.. Have always done my own mechanical work and even some body work. Like to fabricate, I.m a so so welder (mig/tig), have a plasma cutter (neat tool), and am just getting into metal working. Bought a mill last week. Thinking about taking the 86 vette and building it up to either going road racing or one mile speed runs at Maxton, NC. Thinking about a 9" solid rear for it. Believe in 'drive it like you stole it' |

Welcome from another C4 owner and NC resident. If you're going to race that Vette at Maxton, you might want to keep it within stock class rules. The record for it's modified class is currently at 223 MPH. This means you must build it, safety-wise, for that speed whether it runs anywhere near it or not. Rather expensive in addition to all of the other mods. Anyhow, this is something I'm considering doing with my C4 as well. I've got a friend up in Va. Beach who runs a modified '96 LT4 and has achieved 199 in the standing mile at Maxton, so far. Very nice guy, known as sonnyinva on Corvette Forum. If you want to get in touch with him, I'm sure he'd be glad to enlighten you on the subject. Here's a couple of links on Maxton and LSR racing.

I have been accused of having never grown up and acting like an idiot at times (about once a year).
