HELP!! 1939 ford or mercury chassis how can i tell

Hi great gurus of the world

Need help to identify what chassis i have?? Numbers are unreadable.
Was told it was a 1939 ford chassis but have brought trans mount kit from chassis inc to find it looks different.
I'm in new zealand and this is a costly mistake with shipping etc
So need to find out if i can identfy this chassis could be a 1935 36 or mercury.

Any help would be grateful.

Thanks
Dion

I know the wheelbase is DIFFERENT on the Mercury. A Ford (1935 to 1940 ) has a wheelbase of 112 inches. The 1939 Mercury is longer @ 116 inches.

The basic frame was the same on my 41 Merc. The factory moved the front crossmember ahead 3" and the rear mount of the wishbone/x member was mounted in a three inch adapter/extension to move it forward.

Is it possible that a pickup chassis is different than a coupe? Did you specify that the trans mount was for a pickup chassis?

Help! 1939 Ford or Mercury Chassis...

The Mercury is 4 inches longer than the Ford. I have a 1939 Mercury coupe-sedan and it is 116" so the Ford coupe-sedan would be 112". This was a new body style in 39 with the introduction of Mercury to the Ford family.

Yes the wheelbase is longer but did they just move the axle forward as Bob described, I remember that as well, though I can't say for sure that it was that way the first year in 39.

In 39 Henry was very much in control, I'd bet on the relocated crossmembers over different frame rails.

Thanks everyone, this thread is a bit old.

Have found out it is a 1939merc chassis,
have a look at the k member the "c" is facing towards the outside of car.
On the ford's it is facing towards the gearbox.

Thanks again to everyone that has replied.
