Help!

right, so here goes: 67 galaxie, what's the best STREETABLE 9 sec. engine combo for it?

Jmark 07-18-2005 03:24 PM

Hmm, 9 seconds in a 5 thousand pound car. Lets see, maybe a blown 460, killer C6 and some 4.88 gears?

GalaxieRoller 07-18-2005 03:30 PM

streetable, as in doesn't need to run on race gas!

Twin-Turbo 600 shotgun and e-4od?

Jmark 07-18-2005 03:35 PM

that should work, providing you have the bucks to build it all. Good luck.

Haha I love these questions... try going 12's first and see just how that is.

I can tell you one things by the time your looking at the 9sec class you will already know the anwser to your question.

In a car like that i'd say cut all the fat you can. Lite as possible...
Then forget whatever drive train is in there...
New rear*built* new trans*built* and a wallet opening engine. BUT don't forget you now must run full inspected safety cage you should already have something close to slicks on the back. A suspension that is in the order to take a beating. O and be able to control the car as it lifts the nose off the ground *very fun  *

Then find another car to drive home in because by then your past street class. *a few out there but I think safety first* O and maybe a tank of fuel?

Very possible just work your way up there. Once you start makin good times it becomes addicting! Good luck.

yes the guys is right. try going 12's first. my bet is you get to 13's.

9's ??? , your just throwing together a bunch of peices on a crappy super lightened chassis. if you have no expirience in racing or design, it WILL be a hill-billy hotrod. no streetable manners. no longevity.

think baby steps.

Whatever combo you decide on, according to one calculator I use, you will need about:

1. 800 RWHP to move a 4000# car to 9.99 at about 142 MPH in the 1/4 mile.
2. 990 RWHP to move a 5000# car to the same numbers.

At an assumed 20% drivetrain loss, that is anywhere between 1,000 - 1,240 flywheel HP to run your Galaxie in the 9s, that is high 9's. That's a whole bunch of motor. Not sure how streetable that can be made.

And don't forget. Going that fast requires a bunch of safety mods that cost big dollars too. Not to mention the upgraded driveline (trans, driveshaft and rear).

If you want to play the 9 second game, you're going to the track on a trailer, thats it.

Easy there, Killer! twin tubos on even a 289 would be enough, and btw, ever hear of true street?

killerformula 07-18-2005 04:40 PM

This is a silly question. IF you have to ask how to build a 9 second ride, chances are you'll need a lot more than some forum advice to get there.

No stock 289 block is going to move a 5000 lb car into the 9's. Stock blocks are good to about 600 horse if you're lucky, maybe 800 with all the fill you can get on them. I wouldn't even try it with the 1300 horse its going to take to get you into the 9's, especially on so few cubes. A 460 might have a chance.

You're just not going to build a 9 second ride that gets groceries and takes the kids to school, it just won't happen.

I can hit 10's with a 121 trap, and technically, wouldn't 850 get me to nine's?

Derkyb 07-18-2005 04:47 PM

I disagree, he can run about 300 shot of nos on a 500 horse 289 or just run it down a 1/8 mi track. :spank:

sure thing, but ummmm, NO! 351 Clevor with a dart block and twin turbos 'll get me that in the quarter.

strikingthematch 07-18-2005 06:12 PM

Best thing for you to do is go get yourself self an R1 *fill out your will first* and take that to the track. Sure it's not a car but you'll see what 9 secs is like. :boxing:

You're hitting 10 second ET's in a 5000 lb car with a factory 289 block?

Right.
