Unhappy help, 700 R killin me

This is the third 700 R i've put in my 92 caprice. It shifts from 1 to 2 but then neutralizes and you have to bring the car to a complete stop before it will pick up again. Drives fine in low (2) on the dash but won't move in (1) on the dash. Is it gone ? Is there a machine I can put it on to tellll me if it's gone? I just started putting in transmissions, so I'm inexperienced and can not give proper diagnosis by the symptoms, please help.

Pretty much anytime you get a tranny problem not related to low fluid problems you can expect to rebiuld it. By the time you dissasemble for inspection than you're already far enough in to warrant the cost. Hate to give the bad new's, but that's the way the rust crumbles.
