i fell in love with my 1986 toyota celica gt the moment i saw it. when i bought it the "owner" gave me the title and his phone#, and told me to call him if i needed him to sign anything. this is my first car and i needed $600 cash to get it registered and get progressive insurance (cheapest $200 a month lol) and money has been and still is tight. i fineally got enough to get it up and roaring so i went to the dmv. i found out then that andrew(the guy that sold it to me)didnt get it in his name before he sold it to me. i tried to find him and the phone# he gave me gives me an error message. so i went to andrew's house (listed on the title) and found it to be for sale. i was told that i could find the original owner (david) and get him to help me. he also is nowhere to be found. i thought before i bought this car (i figured a price of $400 meant it was a stolen car) and got the vin number and ran it(thank you!!!) the car has been in florida since it was bought in 1986. no accidents, not stolen, passed emmisions, everything was green on my gt so i went for it. i have a celica gt oldschool streetmachine that has been parked for 6 months. my friends are suspecting that im lying, that i have a pinto or something. and my ride to work(friend) has had engine trouble(barely running) with his car for a while now. i want my gt on the road and this dmv runaround is starting to irritate me to the max!

if anyone has any advice with my car plz plz plz help.

Apply for a lost or stolen title. The state police will come and inspect the car 's vin numbers and certify that it is not stolen, fill out a form that you will take back to the dmv and then get your plates.

I don't know about Florida, but in Louisiana, a justice of the peace can award you a title under certain conditions. Might see if you can find a JP in your area.

In KY you can transfer a car without ins, you can't register it though. I had a very similair thing happen with my 77 ta wind up selling it back to who I bought it from. Also it's not legal and i wouldn't advocate it or do it. but I've heard some people get transfer papers fill them out and go transfer it. It's a Felony pretty sure and no car is worth it. I wouldn't take anyone's advice that suggest it they just want to see you go to jail. If your celcia has a good drivetrain, why not pick up another with a blown drivetrain and swap it?
