Help with the basics of building a 32 chev roadster
Thank You both for a quick reply.
To be quite honest I have no idea on scale or size, I am not up with all the car talk, the best i can describe is its a smaller version of the original car, It is drivable but in Australia not legal on the roads, it is more for car shows & displayI hope that may help, I will find out & post when my partner gets home from work Mel |

I guess I can welcome you to the hotrodders bulletin board. You are probably going to want to build in a scale that is 1/2 or larger. 1/3 scale is too small. 1/2 scale means that if the full size car is 12 feet long, then the model you are going to build will be only 6 feet long. All measurements will be cut in 1/2 on the finished piece. You should start by laying out your scaled design on matte board or thin plywood so you can see if you need to make any adjustments to your design to accommodate a bigger cockpit or adjusting the wheel well /fenders to fit the wheels better. You may want to go up in scale if your partner is needing that, if you know what I mean
A trip to the shop that sells go-carts will be a good starting place to look for all of the chassis components. You may want to buy an existing cart chassis and adjust the body design to fit it. That could save some time and money. The cart shop may even know of a supplier of scaled bodies that can be modified to look like your car. You could then start building, or having built, the body. Using fiberglass to build your model will cost alot less than building one out of steel. A trip to your local fiberglass materials supplier could get you pointed in the right direction according to your skill, budget etc. (unless you do this all yourself, you will spend some money.) You could also contact a fiberglass manufacturer of auto parts, they would have the skills to build a one-off body out of fiberglass. If your partner has any bodywork or fabrication skills they could make the body themselves with a little education. There is a book that I have suggested to more than a few people called "how to build fiberglass hot rods, customs and kit cars" by leroi tex smith. there is a ton of useful info in that book about building bodies from scratch. The book has information about scaling and design also. here is a link I found when I googled "go cart hot rods"http://www.aeroglass.com/kartparts/index.php hope this helps, Mikey
