Help blew a 3.9 250 inline 6 in a 69 ford econoline van

Hey all, My buddy and i just finished painting his 69 for econoline van. its got a inline 6 240 engine and a 3 in the tree and a nice ford 9 rear end. Im a chev guy but i always want to learn something new. So the problem is he blew the engine, first piston blew up. Anyway we can rebuild that engine but i said why dont we just build a 302 or a 351 or soemthing and put in an auto tranny while we are at it.

So my question is Can we swap in a v8 and an auto tranny in its place? Has anyone done this? if this is an easy swap what would be the best combo. ? if it were a chev i would put in a 383 and a th350 but its a ford and im kinda lost.

thanks alot

Marc

302 with c-4 was available as a stock option in those an would be the easiest to do..the deck height on the 351 is an inch higher and may be tight to get one of those in that engine compartment..But it is all stock parts to do the swap...
