Help with cam Choice ????

The choice(s) at hand.. A crower Roller Cam(00470) specs... 286/292..232-240 @.050...549/559. Im debating on this VS. the XR288HR from comp cam. They have almost mirroring images of each other, except at .50 the duration is shorty with the crower. Does anyone have any EXPERIENCE with THIS Crower cam and how will it perform in a 383sbc with AFR195;10.5 compression

The Crower will have slightly less agressive Lobe ramps and may be a little less noisy. Some of the Comp XR's do have unwanted valvetrain noise.

Seems to me that if the Crower cam has the same lift and less duration, that the lobes would be more aggressive on it than the Comp cam. Am I missing something? Or is it a matter of acceleration being higher w/the Comp cam- and where would this info be found?

the lift and duration @0.50 numbers are different. Here are the specs.... http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/c...?csid=161&sb=2

For your particular application I like #00471 better, it only has 4° of split in the duration. Your AFR heads don't need or want that big 8° bigger exhaust lobe.

A big split like that is intended for heads that don't have as good an exhaust port as the AFR head does.

that compcam makes goooood power, the xr282hr is a good cam, matched with some 215 flowing heads, you could see 480hp and 450tq very easy, or more, so with that xr288hr you are looking at, you hit some real good numbers with the rite stuff to go with it!!! , on the other hand the bigger the cam the more air flow you need, like going from 215's to 225's, if i had some 225's or 230's id start with the xr292hr, and pump out close to 600hp lol, no prbs there
