HELP! Can't get the trans dip stick tube in

Does anyone have any idea how to press the dipstick tube into place on a turbo 350 transmission? Just had it worked on. Put it back in and got a new chrome dipstick tube - (same size as old one but not as bent up). BUT I CANNOT GET IT PRESSED IN!!! If I take out the rubber fitting in the hole then it seems to fit perfectly but I'm reasonably sure it will leak, big time!!! Everything is in place but I cannot seem to get enough torque (or pressure) on the tube to mash it into the hole with the rubber grommet in place. Is there a special tool of any kind? I have very little room to work (headders are close) or get anything on it... This is on a 67 camaro. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... It should be so simple..... AAAHHHHHH

Ditch the rubber seal and put some RTV around it and slide it in. Works with an oil dipstick

there are two types of seals for dip stick you mention.

If the tube has a groove around the tranny end of the tube , a rubber O ring is used.

If the filler tube has a tapered / narrowed end at the tranny end, a rubber sealing sleeve is used. This sleeve MUST be installed into the tranny case FIRST , then the filler tube slides in. Lube the filler tube end with tranny fluid or some thing similar
