Help with a dilema.
 

Has anybody out there ever adapted a later 93,94,95...model Stepside Chevy bed to a 1956 F100? I'm wanting to do this to my truck but don't know where to begin. Does it need to be shortened etc...?

I have never seen it done. My advice is to go find one and measure it.That way you can be sure.

I see there is a 1956 F100 with a 1994 stepside bed on it on Ebay, but the guy selling it is the second owner and doesn't know the modification it took to make it fit.

I have to tell you, I know you didn't ask for opinion but......I wouldn't even think of that swap, it just doesn't "work".

I have seen it on a 55ish Chevy, but on that Ford, I am sorry, it is hidious.

I have seen it done on some other Models,But it don't go on that truck.... :nono:

Hideous? maybe tasteless or lazy .
Lazy because it's easy to drop a late bed on as chassis and not repair an original or buy a repro box.
Adapting a box to any chassis is as easy as sitting it in place and seeing where the mounts are and fabricating angle mounts to on the chassis. Almost all pickups use the same basic method.
The original style works because it looks like it "works" for a living .later boxes are all about contemporary styling not practicality.

I'm just trying to get a different smoother look. I'm not going for an original look but more of a unique look. Kind of like a 57 Bel-air dash in a ford pickup, which I've done. If there was a way to smooth out all the seams on an original box or a prefab box I'd go that route. I think that it's going to be alot of work getting it all to look like it's one piece.

I agree,it just doesn't go on that truck. If you want different and smooth maybe try an old Studebaker box.

It wouldn't look half as bad if it didn't have the porthole window in it. It makes it look like an extended cab with a porthole van window. I think the bed itself actually looks halfway decent on it.

If you narrow the bed a little,So the step will flow into the cab,It would look better. :D I agree on the crazy little window...It belong's on one of them van's from the 70's..... :drunk:

I get you now, The Mopar pickups in the 50's had a real style too. With fins etc. In that case I would hunt down a 1970's box from a F100 and see how that would look Some of the GM pickups from the 50's also had nice styling on the pickup box. Photoshop anyone?

Yea, I'm not a big fan of the extended cab part of this truck either, but I do like the late model bed. I found me a 97 stepside bed but i don't know if I'd need to narrow it.

We're doin good here ya'll keep the comments and suggestions coming. :D
